Indiana Michigan Power is investing in cleaner ways to create energy, spark creativity and light imaginations. In 2023, we generated more than 87% of our energy from emission-free sources, including solar, wind, hydro and the Cook Nuclear Plant. Our energy efficiency programs help reduce customers’ energy use, which also lowers demand for the generation of electricity.

What do kids know about clean energy?
Energy Efficiency Helps You and the Environment
I&M’s energy efficiency programs help reduce energy use and emissions that harm the environment. Energy-saving steps, both large and small, help to better our environment and the world we live in.
How much they help is up to you. The more people that participate in energy-saving programs, the more we help the environment and the more energy we save. You may be able to get a rebate too—our customers received almost $38.6 million dollars in rebates in 2022!
Since 2012, you have helped save over 1 billion kWh through I&M’s energy efficiency programs. That’s enough to power 88,807 typical homes for an entire year! The environment was helped by eliminating almost 6.7 billion pounds of C02, SO2 and NOX emissions since 2012. That’s equal to taking 672,326 gas-powered cars off the road for a year!
Going Green at Home
Energy-saving Programs at Home
In 2022, over 26.5 million kWh was saved through I&M’s @Home energy efficiency programs. That’s enough to power 2,211 typical homes for an entire year! You helped the environment by reducing emissions equal to taking 4,185 gas-powered cars off the road for a year. More than 12,500 residential customers received nearly $1.2 million in rebates in 2022.*
Online Energy Checkup
Almost 617,000 kWh of energy was saved in 2022. The 7,659 Michigan customers and their families who installed the energy-saving items in the kit helped reducing emissions equal to taking 97 gas-powered cars off the road for a year! *
Income-qualified Home Energy Checkup / Weatherproofing
Over 4.1 million kWh of energy was saved by customers who had a Home Energy Checkup in 2022. You helped the environment by reducing emissions equal to a gas-powered car driving almost 7.5 million miles! *
Going Green at Work
Energy-saving Programs at Work
In 2022, over 65.4 million kWh was saved through I&M’s @Work energy efficiency programs. That’s enough to power 5,456 typical homes for an entire year! You helped the environment by reducing emissions equal to taking 10,325 gas-powered cars off the road for a year. More than 550 business customers received nearly $2.7 million in rebates in 2022.*
Prescriptive Rebates
In 2022, more than $1.13 million in rebates was paid to our Prescriptive Rebate business customers. Our business customers saved nearly 23 million kWh of energy with prescriptive projects. That’s equal to the emissions reduced by taking 3,621 cars off the road for a year!*
Custom Incentives
In 2022, our Custom Incentive business customers were paid more than $1.51 million in rebates. Our business customers saved over 28.8 million kWh with custom projects. That’s equal to the emissions reduced by taking 4,537 cars off the road for a year!*

Data as of 2022. Prior year data updated annually in June. Rebates and participation in 2022, were impacted by COVID-related program changes. Annual energy savings based on 12,000 kWh use per year. Estimated emissions reduction calculations are made using EPA.gov Greenhouse Equivalencies Calculator and gross verified kWh savings by program in 2022.
The EPA calculates emissions based on U.S. national weighted average CO2 marginal emission rates to convert reductions of kilowatt-hours into avoided units of carbon dioxide emissions. Since I&M’s generation portfolio is more than 2/3 emissions-free, the kWh saved by efficiency improvements made in our service area equates to a smaller emissions reduction compared to a region where coal is primarily used. The comparisons shown are for program marketing only and not based on I&M’s specific generation mix.
