Appliance Recycling

Save with Energy-Efficient Appliances

One of the easiest ways to save energy around the house is by purchasing energy-efficient appliances. A pre-1993 fridge or freezer costs more than twice as much to operate as a new model. Fridges and freezers from the 1970s cost four times more to operate!

When you recycle, any hazardous materials like mercury switches or refrigerants are recovered and recycled. Then, the appliance is shredded into tiny pieces, after which magnets will remove any steel, and eddy currents will remove any nonferrous metals (like aluminum). The remaining components, tempered glass and plastics are then separated and sold to manufacturers. Over 95% of the fridge is recycled and the hazardous wastes are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

We no longer offer an Appliance Recycling program. To find a local recycling company for your refrigerator or other large appliances, google “Appliance Recycling Near Me.”
