Get Energy-saving Kits for the Class
I&M’s School Energy Education for 5th grade students introduces the exciting world of electricity. Students learn practical ideas for saving energy (and our planet!) and receive in-class workbooks and a take-home kit full of energy-saving products. This FREE School Energy Education kit teaches kids helpful tips like remembering to turn off the TV and supports state Academic Standards for easy integration into your current curriculum.
In 2019, 429 classrooms learned about saving energy. Each of the 12,757 students received an energy-saving kit to take home. Those 5th-grade students and their families helped save over 2 million kWh. That’s equal to reducing the emissions from a car driving 191,500 miles a year.*

Are students required to do anything to get a kit?
All students in the class will receive a take-home energy-saving kit. Students are asked to complete a short survey. The student survey contains a pre- and post-program quiz. If your students take a pledge to make smart energy choices and return their surveys, each student will receive an I&M Certificate of Achievement.
Teachers will also receive a Mini Grant for their classroom when 80% of their students’ surveys are completed and returned. A self-addressed postage-paid return envelope is provided in your teacher materials.
Does the curriculum support state Academic Standards?
How much does School Energy Education cost?
There is no cost to you, your students or your school district to participate.
Are there a maximum number of kits for each class?
One energy-saving kit will be provided for each student enrolled in your class. There is not a maximum number of kits for each class. However, there are a limited number of kits for each year. When that number is reached, classrooms must wait until the following year.
